General Information About the Farmhouse With Four Apartments Near Gambassi Terme:

The setting and location: My family and I have stayed many times in the Tuscan farmhouse near Gambassi Terme. Attached are photographs I took of the interior and exterior of the house, as well as of the farm and the landscape immediately adjacent to it. It is located at the end of a gravel road about one mile from the small town of Gambassi Terme, which offers complete grocery shopping, restaurants, cafes and other services. Gambassi Terme is about 26 miles southwest of Florence and only about 4 miles from the train line (at Castelfiorentino) between Florence and Siena. One can park for free on the street in Castelfiorentino (also the location of the biggest supermarket in the area) and take the (about) 40 minute train ride into the center of historic Florence. Gambassi Terme is about 20 miles northwest of Siena and about 10 miles north of San Gimignano, one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe. Many of San Gimignano’s famous towers, dating from the Middle Ages, are visible from the farmhouse.

The estate, which is about 600 acres, produces delicious wine and extra virgin olive oil, which may be purchased from the foreman of the farm. I highly recommend both. The farm is worked by a crew of men and women who live nearby (no one lives on the estate).

The farmhouse: The farmhouse dates from the 18th Century and has walls about a meter (3 feet) thick. The farmhouse is divided into four apartments, each of which is equipped with a modern kitchen and bathroom(s). Each apartment has a separate entrance, but there are interior doors (with locks on both sides), which make it easy to create suites of two or three apartments. Each apartment has gas heating units.

Apartment #1 (sleeeps four) has two bedrooms, one with a queen-sized, divided bed, one with two twin beds, and two bathrooms (one with a large bathtub; the other with a shower). It has a small kitchen, with a stainless steel, 4 burner gas kitchen range, with oven, a large dining room and a large living room, with a huge fireplace.

Apartment #2 (sleeps five) has fine quality replicas of 19th C wood furniture, as well as some original pieces, has two bedrooms, one with one queen-sized, divided bed and one single bed, and the other with one queen-sized, divided bed. The latter bedroom has its own bathroom (with shower). There is a second bathroom (with shower), a very large kitchen with a stainless steel, 4 burner gas kitchen range, with oven (also an extra wood-burning stove) and a large dining/living room.

Apartment #3 (sleeps six) has three bedrooms, one with a queen-sized, divided bed, one with a queen-sized, divided bed and a single bed and one with a single bed. It has a large living room with a huge fireplace, a large dining room, a small kitchen with a stainless steel, 4 burner gas kitchen range, with oven and two bathrooms, one with a large bathtub and shower and the other with a shower only.

Apartment #4 (sleeps two to four) has one large bedroom with a double bed, a very large (about 450 square feet) and beautiful living/dining room (with two walls of cut stone and a brick arch) with a fireplace and a sleeper couch (double bed), a kitchen with a stainless steel, 4 burner gas kitchen range, with oven, a breakfast nook for two in the kitchen, and a bathroom with shower. It is "split-level", in the sense that the kitchen and bathroom are "sunken", with an open, eight step staircase.

Each apartment has a full complement of kitchen equipment. Clean linen and towels are provided weekly. A clothes washer is available for a modest charge.

Terms of rental: The rent for each apartment is €800 per week in June, July, August and September and at Christmas, New Year’s and Easter, €700 per week in April, May and October, and €500 per week in other months. Heat and all other utilities are included. The rental period runs from a Saturday afternoon to a Saturday morning. Once you let me know a specific rental period in which you are interested, I will check availability with my client, the owner. Payment terms are a 30% (of the total rent) non-refundable payment at the time of booking with the non-refundable balance due 60 days before scheduled arrival. Payment is to be made in advance to me, and I will transfer it to him.
