General Information About the 10-Bedroom, 9-Bath Baroque Villa Near Paestum (1/2 Hour South of Amalfi Coast):

The setting and location:
My family and I and friends just enjoyed a fantastic stay in this elegant, 10-bedroom (sleeps 20), 9-bathroom villa, which was built in 1586 and served as a hunting lodge for nobility under Charles III, the Bourbon king of Naples. It is only about 4 kilometers from the massive yet graceful UNESCO World Heritage-designated ancient Greek temples at Paestum and about five kilometers from gorgeous, sandy beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. Salerno and the Amalfi Coast are about 1/2 hour north and the Cilento national park starts just to the south, at Agropoli. Besides Amafi and Positano, the famous islands of Capri and Ischia and luxurious Sorrento are easily visited by car, ferry, train and bus. The same is true for the fascinating ruins of the Versuvius-buried, ancient Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as incomparable Naples, with its world-class archeological museum, and the vast caldera holding the Phlegrean Fields and the sunken Roman city of Baiae, summer resort home of the Roman Emperors. Eboli and the breathtaking, mountainous interior (see the film, "Christ Stopped at Eboli"), lovely and interesting Benevento and, of course, Rome, the "Eternal City" are also not far.

The Villa:
This Baroque stone villa has about 4,000 square feet, with exterior walls about a meter thick. It is furnished throughout with antiques and quality reproductions. On the ground floor, it has two large living/dining rooms, with seating for dozens of people, a large kitchen, with two large refrigerator/freezers, and a bathroom, with laundry. Each living/dining room has double glass doors which open onto a large, outdoor eating area with ample seating for 20+ and barbecue. On the second floor are five bedrooms, two with their own bathrooms and three which share a bathroom, as well as a large, central living room, with satellite television and a piano. On the third floor are yet another large, central living room and five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and air-conditioning, A superb, 60,000+ square feet garden with many exotic trees and flowering bushes surrounds the villa.
