General Information About the Four Bedroom House in the Luberon area of Provence (near Roussillon and Menerbes):

The setting and location: The house is located on a large wine estate in the Luberon area near the classic hilltowns of Roussillon, Gordes and Menerbes. Roussillon’s narrow streets are full of centuries-old houses built from its ochre-colored rock in hues which range from pale creams to deep, dark browns to bright reds, violets and blues. Roussillon was an important source of color pigments in Europe for hundreds of years, and the pigments are still readily apparent on the sheer cliffs surrounding the town. Gordes is the "poster town" of Provence. Menerbes is full of lovingly restored medieval stone houses, basking in the renown resulting from being the basic setting of Peter Mayle’s best selling book, A Year in Provence.

The house: The house still has the date of its construction carved in a block of stone over the lintel: 1656! It is of course built of the local stone, in beautiful shades of dark and light ochre, with walls a good meter thick. A large swimming pool is located behind the house on a grassy knoll bordered by a wall of trees. Vineyards and woods surround the house, with rocky, red-ochre, conifered hills in the middle distance. The massive house shares walls with two adjacent, smaller houses, in what was probably a defensive configuration typical of the middle ages. The smaller houses contain a three bedroom (sleeps six persons) and two one bedroom (each sleeping two persons) living units, which are also available for rental. I have materials for these living units as well.

Ground floor: Outside the front double glass doors is an outdoor eating area, with tables and chairs and a large, wood-burning, fireplace. Entering the house, which has tiled floors throughout, there is a large living/dining room with a fireplace. The fully-furnished kitchen runs along the left wall. There is a clothes washer in the utility room.

Upper floors: On each of the two upper floors, there are two spacious bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed, tables and a large armoire or chest of drawers. The bathroom on the second floor has a shower and sink, with a separate toilet, while the third floor bathroom has a full-sized bathtub with a shower attachment, sink and toilet.

Terms of rental: The weekly rent is €1,550 in June, July, August and September, €1,400 in April, May and October and €1,250 in other months. Clean sheets and towels are provided weekly. The rental period runs from (4:00 p.m.) on a Saturday afternoon until 10:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Once you let me know a specific rental period in which you are interested, I will check availability with my client, the owner. Payment terms are a 30% (of the total rent) non-refundable payment at the time of booking with the non-refundable balance due 60 days before scheduled arrival. Payment is to be made to me, and I will transfer it to my client.
