General Information About the Three Bedroom House in the Luberon area of Provence (near Roussillon and Menerbes):

The setting and location: The house is located on a large wine estate in the Luberon area near the classic hilltowns of Roussillon and Menerbes. Roussillon’s narrow streets are full of centuries-old houses built from its ochre-colored rock in hues which range from pale creams to deep, dark browns to bright reds, violets and blues. Roussillon was an important source of color pigments in Europe for hundreds of years, and the pigments are still readily apparent on the sheer cliffs surrounding the town. Menerbes is full of lovingly restored medieval stone houses, basking in the renown resulting from being the basic setting of Peter Mayle’s best selling book, A Year in Provence.

The house: The house still has the date of its construction carved in a block of stone over the lintel: 1656! It is of course built of the local stone, in beautiful shades of dark and light ochre, with walls a good meter thick. A large swimming pool is located behind the house on a grassy knoll bordered by a wall of trees. Vineyards and woods surround the house, with rocky, red-ochre, conifered hills in the middle distance. The house shares walls with two adjacent houses, in what was probably a defensive configuration typical of the middle ages. The other houses contain a four bedroom (sleeps eight persons) and two one bedroom (each sleeping two persons) living units, which are also available for rental. I have materials for these living units as well.

Ground floor: Outside is an outdoor eating area, with tables and chairs. Entering the house, which has tiled floors throughout, there is a large living/dining room with a fireplace. The fully-furnished kitchen is separated from the living/dining room by a counter/bar. A bedroom, with a queen sized bed, table and an armoire, and a bathroom with shower complete the ground floor

Upper floor: There are two bedroom areas, each with a queen-sized bed, tables and an armoire, in an open loft area on the upper floor.

Terms of rental: The weekly rent is $1,400 in June, July, August and September, $1,200 in April, May and October and $1,000 in other months. Clean sheets and towels are provided weekly. The rental period runs from (4:00 p.m.) on a Saturday afternoon until 10:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Once you let me know a specific rental period in which you are interested, I will check availability with my client, the owner. Payment terms are a 30% (of the total rent) non-refundable payment at the time of booking with the non-refundable balance due 60 days before scheduled arrival. Payment is to be made to me, and I will transfer it to my client.
