General Information About the Two 2-Bedroom Apartments on the Estate Near Avignon

The setting and location: The apartments are on the second and third floors of an interesting water-driven flour mill, dating from the 14th Century, on a 12 acre wine and quince estate. It is just outside the small, medieval town of Noves and only about 6 miles east of Avignon. Noves was apparently the hometown of Laura, object of the beautiful love poetry of the great medieval Italian poet, Petrarch. A short morning walk along a fenced path from the estate to the town will yield fresh croissants, baguettes and other pleasures at the local boulangerie. Avignon, with its famous medieval bridge (you may have learned the French children’s song, "Sur le pont d’Avignon" in elementary school), palace (with museum) and cathedral was the seat of the "pretender" popes of the 13th Century. Noves is on the edge of the Luberon area of Provence, known for its hilltowns. About 20 miles east of Noves is Menerbes, a classic hilltown of the Luberon, with its lovingly restored medieval stone houses. Menerbes is the basic setting of Peter Mayle’s best selling book, A Year in Provence.

Second floor apartment: The apartment on the second floor, which has wood and tiled floors, has about 810 square feet. There are: a living room with a sofa (double) bed, television and telephone, a kitchen/dining room with dishwasher and microwave oven, a tiled bathroom with sink and bathtub, a separate room with toilet ("W.C."), a bedroom with one double bed and a second bedroom with one single bed and one bunkbed (i.e.: two single beds, one over the other) as well as a tiled shower.

Third floor apartment: The apartment on the third floor has beautiful timbered walls, wood and tiled floors and about 810 square feet. There are: a living room with a sofa bed, television and telephone, a kitchen/dining room, a tiled bathroom with sink and bathtub/shower, a separate room with toilet ("W.C."), a bedroom with two single beds and a second bedroom with two bunkbeds (i.e.: two single beds, one over the other).

The swimming pool and enormous, park-like grounds: A very large (56 feet by 23 feet), tiled swimming pool (with high-quality lounge chairs), screened by flowering shrubs, is located nearby on the enormous and beautifully landscaped grounds. There is a small building with changing rooms, shower and toilet next to the pool. There are furnished spaces for barbecuing and eating outside. There is a laundry in the ground floor of the old mill building, with a washing machine for use of guests. A few hundred feet from the apartments (in different directions) are two independent houses, one with three bedrooms, the other with two bedrooms. The owner’s own imposing house and several small work buildings, as well as vineyards, quince orchards and woods in the middle distance, complete the estate. Above a cliff against which the estate nestles, begins a wooded, legally protected, natural area of about 900 acres.

Terms of rental: The weekly rent for each apartment is €1,600 in June, July, August and September, €1,100 in April, May, and October, and €750 in other months. Clean sheets and towels are provided weekly. There is an extra charge for any heat used. The rental period runs from 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon until 10:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Once you let me know a specific rental period in which you are interested, I will check availability with my client, the owner. Payment terms are a 30% (of the total rent) non-refundable payment at the time of booking with the non-refundable balance due 60 days before scheduled arrival. Payment is to be made to me, and I will transfer it to my client.
